Timeline of Events Plus Dad Stories

Friday, August 13
Time: 2:45 p.m.
The Babies' Dad Workplace
(Inside the babies' dad brain all brain power and skill are full blast!)
Double check that the final edit is done. Oh Crap! They are paging the engineer! How much time is left? Finish! Finish! Finish!
(Engineer picks up the phone and dials 768 to pick-up the page)
J The Engineer: This is J the Engineer. Yeah, we are almost done. How long until we are done? gives me a "Give me a time!?" look, then replies: Ten-minutes at the most 15. words came through the phone Yes, we know shipping leaves at 3 and you need this right away. Okay, bye. (Hangs up the phone)
Me: I saved it. Do you need me to print it?
J The Engineer: Put it in the pending folder. I will run downstairs and get them to print these so we will get these out of the door.
Me: Okay.( I was thinking YES! We made the deadline! All this hard work paid off!)

Time 2:55 pm
There are multiple people in the my cubicle. However, my phone rings and I ignore it. I check my cell phone since it is always on silent when I am at work and it says I missed a call and two text messages from my wife. I hear the following words over the speaker," Eloy call on 765" I immediately think,"OH CRAP!" I dial the extension and I hear a frantic/teary wife.

Wife: You need to come home. I think I am having contractions and no one is here! It really hurts!
Me: Okay, have you called the people on your list?
Wife: Yes, she is on her way over here but we are probably heading to the hospital (still crying)
Me: Okay, I will leave now and meet you there.
Wife: Okay.
Me: I will be there for everything. I promise.

By this point I had an audience and everyone was looking at me. I then looked at them with a frantic look and all of them said,"GET OUT OF HERE! GO! GO!"I was panicked so I shut down my machine and grabbed my stuff I didn't know where to run to.

Time: 3:00 p.m.
The Babies' Dad Vehicle

I finally got to my car and started to drive to the hospital. However, I started to drive to the wrong hospital. I know you are thinking,"What a MORON!", but to my defense I usually play basketball close to where the other hospital is located. I know still a MORON move.
I realize this about a quarter of the way to the wrong hospital so I turn to get on a street that would get me to the highway. I get on the highway and my cell phone rings, it's my wife.

Me: Everything okay?
Wife (more composed): How about you come on home. They are contractions but now that Lori is here they are better. She is helping me deal with the pain.
Me: Okay. I am almost there.

Time: 3:45 p.m.
The Babies' Dad House
I make it home and there is my teary wife and Lori ( a superwoman in our book because she can do so much and has helped us a gazillion times with things, her husband is alright too but he is an engineer so that takes some points off of him. He does have a nice ride. (Think old school classic not made anymore, pontiac 5-speed, no power locks either, big pimpin!) Anyway, Lori had been timing my wife's contractions and they were getting closer together.

Time: 4:55 pm
First text to blog reads "heading to the hospital...maybe this is it!" It was showtime!
If you want a live look at what happened next read back on the previous posts as it is pretty raw thoughts and scenarios as they happened. I will now fast forward to a little bit after the babies were born since I didn't post much and I know some of you probably wanted to strangle me because of it.

I apologize for the agony. It will make sense once you read below.

Time: 9:15 p.m.
Hospital Operating Room (Yes, I meant Operating Room not Delivery Room)
My wife is rolled into the room and the doctor that was on call came in. I truly believe my wife has really good genes when it comes to having babies. Once the doctor started to tell her to push I looked at the nurses and they were giving me the, "Wow!" look. My wife pushed a few times and I could see little Katherine's dark hair coming out. I always thought I was not going to look at all that stuff down there while this was happening but when I was there it was more like,"Oh man that is my child being born!" I looked and I saw the top of her little head amongst other things.

Time: 10:05 p.m.
A few more pushes from my wife and Katherine Anne was born. She let out a few cries and then she was taken by the nurses for evaluation. She had all that gunk on her but she was beautiful. At this point I didn't know what to do. Do I go see my new baby or do I stay with my wife? Good thing my wife didn't mind me going and enjoying my new baby girl.

Now I looked at her to see what she looked like, turned out that she looked like me! I was pretty happy and amazed. However, I had to get back to welcome my second child.

Time: 10:17 p.m.
At this point I was anticipating to know the sex of the second kid because it was so amazing finding out when Katherine was born. Then the doctor told my wife to push a few more times and there she was, Layla Mae! It was so amazing! I had two beautiful daughters and a very happy wife.

Time: 10:45 p.m.
We were moved to a recovery room. Then we decided to delay the announcement because we wanted to try to feed the newborns. I know I should have said something like they are born and they are healthy but what are you going to do, I was now a dad! I was in a room with my new family, all four of us by ourselves.

Around 11:55 p.m.
The grandparents finally find out the sex and health of our new babies. Everyone was pretty happy! Except the people following the blog! :) I still love you all!

That is a summary of what happened that night in addition to the constant text updates. I will write more as I can because the next three days after the girls were born were pretty insane. I will have some insight on what it really means to be "taken care of" at the hospital. It was brutal but it only made all of us stronger.
A simple stat: Wife and I went from Friday evening until Sunday night on about 2-3 meals total and about four hours of sleep. Next post you will find out what the heck we were doing during all those hours.
