About The Names

I wanted to write a quick post about how we came up with the names of our two little darlings. There was a long period of discussion when it came to boy names but for girl names it took us a few chats.

Katherine Anne

We were really locked in on Katherine Anne from the get go. The only issue we had was how we were going to spell the name. My wife really liked the spelling with a "C" but I somehow managed to talk her into spelling it with a "K".

As far as who we named her after we really didn't have anyone in mind for the first name but the middle name is a whole different story. My wife's grandmothers both have a variation of Anne in their name. My grandmother's name is Ana so we named our girl after all of them. The name Katherine Anne seemed to roll of the tongue pretty easy so we went with it.

Layla Mae

Layla (Album Version)This name sounds very southern to us and we like it. We really didn't know where to start on a second girl name. I thought we were set with having one girl name and one boy name until my intelligent wife told me we needed four names. Duh! After she informed me of this my wheel started turning and I knew that I wanted something totally different than Katherine in the sense of how it would sound. We weren't big into the start different kids' names with the same letter or sound. I am a big Eric Clapton fan and he covers a Fats Domino song called Layla. I love the song a lot (this unplugged version the best) so I brought the name up and my wife happened to like it. We did have to play around with the middle name to make it sound better and we ended up with Mae due to the fact that it sounds good when you say it.

We found out after the fact (when they were born) that my wife's great grandmother was named Mae. I guess in a round about way we named our second child after a grandmother after all.

And that my friends is how we came up with our twins' name.

p.s. I will post a lot more here soon as the girls have given us some more adventures.

First road trip was epic, gas bubbles and baby stomachs don't get along, first full bath, major poop is major joy(believe it or not), sleep deprived nights turn into semi-sleep deprived ones and finally they get to me their other grandma for the first time (my mother).
